DDFPe protects against fatal anemia in rats.

Rats were bled while circulating volume remained constant by addition of Ringer's solution. Control rats all die at hemoglobin levels ~18% of normal. DDFPe treated rats all survive at hemoglobin levels of ~8% of normal.
